One of the first questions usually asked by people who are interested in radio controlled cars and trucks is, “How fast can they go?” Before we answer, here’s some advice if you’re new to the hobby. The best RC model cars to start with are off-road RC vehicles built for strength rather than speed. These will outlast the normal abuse that beginners dish out while learning how to drive. Now let’s assume that you do have some radio control car driving experience and are ready for more challenges. Ask us again: How fast can they go?
The answer is, incredibly fast! How does 50, 60, even 70 miles per hour sound? In fact, Tower Hobbies® sells fast RC cars that have the potential to reach triple digit speeds, depending on the electronics and batteries you install! These figures also refer to actual speed. To its driver, a scale model will seem like it’s moving much faster than its actual speed. For example, a 1/8 scale model that’s traveling at 60mph actual speed will seem like it’s moving at about 170 scale miles per hour!
Our Ready-to-Run (RTR) and Roller vehicles come out of the box capable of reaching impressive speeds. No modifications needed!
Hit the trails, muddy courses, racetracks and more. RC buggies bring out your inner speed demon! Once you pull the trigger prepare yourself for a fast-paced ride!
On-road RC cars and trucks can easily be run on a smooth street, parking lot or any other (relatively) flat, paved surface. Hold your hat, because these bad boys move fast! Don't blink, you might miss them when they fly on by!
Using sheer, brute power, RC monster trucks rumble their way up hills, down slopes — and over unsuspecting cars. Don't be fooled by there size, these monsters can move! Fast speeds & Monster trucks = Total FUN!
How high can you fly? How far can you jump? Perform aerial backflips, wheelies, huge jumps with ease over-all terrain, in any conditions. Hit the throttle and be amazed!
Ready, Set, GO! RC cars built for drag racing can reach exceptional speeds, especially with the right RC drag kit. RC drag cars and trucks can be highly customizable!
The Tower Hobbies online catalog includes fast electric RC cars of almost every type and size, and they’re all specifically engineered to go very fast. That means they either include or are designed to use brushless power systems and powerful LiPo batteries. They’re constructed of durable components such as strengthened aluminum chassis and all-metal transmission gears. They feature high-grip tires that make the most of the vehicle’s speed potential. Special, aerodynamically tuned bodies are included, many with high and low downforce wings that help keep the model grounded. Some also have rear diffusers to reduce the turbulence and drag caused when airflow passes over a fast-moving RC car.
So if maximizing speed is your goal, we have the best RC cars and trucks to achieve it, and you’ll find them here on this page. The ARRMA® brand in particular has many RC vehicles designed to reach extreme speeds. They’re fast out-of-the-box and can be made even faster with minor upgrades like installing an optional speed pinion gear. To match their impressive speed, they’re impressively sized at 1/8 to 1/5 scale. You can purchase a fast RC car ready-to-run (RTR), with a perfectly matched power system and radio gear included and installed. Or, if you’re an experienced driver, you might instead choose a roller model and customize its equipment for as much speed and power as your budget allows.
Need some help managing all that speed? Look for the ARRMA RC models that have an AVC® system with on-demand traction control. It will let you dial-in extra stability as needed to carve corners or nail jumps without backing off the power. You’ll be able to race at full-throttle over rough terrain, slick surfaces, and loose dirt.
Radio controlled drag racers are an increasingly popular style of fast RC car. Our Losi® brand offers 1/10 scale drag racers in RTR form that you can take into competition right out of the box. They’ve been designed and equipped according to the rules and regulations established by the No-Prep Drag Racing scene. You can also choose a roller drag racer and install whatever body and electronics you like. Then fly down the drag strip in custom style!
