For beginners, the best way to start is with an RC airplane flying simulator, RealFlight! After practicing the basics of flying and gaining some confidence "behind the sticks", you will want to explore the many exciting styles of RC aircraft. Tower Hobbies offers many trainer models from numerous reputable manufacturers. The best options for beginners are Ready-To-Fly (RTF) and Ultra-micro (UMX) sized aircraft!
There are many designated RC aircraft flying clubs throughout the U.S. that are supported or chartered by the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA). Many of the clubs offer hands-on training and support for beginners, and they're a great way to get started in the hobby. Find an AMA-chartered club near you and get started.
If you have a specific type of airplane style you want to try, look at what is required to fly it. Several beginner planes are suggested at the end of this guide. They come in many different shapes, sizes, and colors. The airplanes suggested in this guide are more easily repairable and durable than larger, more advanced aircraft as well. In addition to a wide variety of airplanes, it also offers plenty of helicopter and multirotor aircraft options for you to fly.
