Jet model planes are available in a variety of types. Electric Ducted Fan (EDF) jets are driven by powerful brushless electric motors. Most have factory-built airframes that greatly reduce the time, effort, and experience required to get them ready to fly. They also provide realistic scale jet looks right out of the box. Until recently, because of their high speed and the control skill needed, RC jets have been almost impossible for first-time or low-time RC pilots to fly successfully. Recent advances in E-flite jet model design have changed that. Today you can learn to fly RC aircraft with an appropriate beginner RC jet model as your trainer. STS (Smart Trainer with SAFE®) jet trainers include special flight assistance technology that makes them more forgiving and easier for new pilots to control at low speeds. Most other jets are not recommended for beginners.
