One of the more popular sizes in model trains, N Scale trains range from 1:148 to 1:160, depending on the maker, and run on a 9mm track.
The first N Scale trains were produced in Germany in 1962 but would not make their debut in America until 1967 when Aurora introduced their line of “Postage Stamp Trains.” The designation “N” is short for “nine,” referring to the 9mm gauge between the rails of the N Scale track.
It is the second most popular model railroading size behind the larger HO scale, which is the 1:87 scale. N Scale started as a novelty scale, but it has risen into a viable scale unto itself over the years. While N Scale is relatively small at just about half the size of HO Scale, it is not the smallest commercially available scale, as Z Scale is smaller yet at 1:220, and T Scale is 1:450 or 1:480.
It can be challenging to devote a large area of living space to a model railroad. With N Scale, you can have an extensive railroad in a tiny space. This scale is perfect for small spaces and is affordable for enthusiasts looking to maximize their enjoyment. N Scale train sets are fantastic starting models because of their size, quality, and low cost. While many modelers select N Scale because they are limited in space, others use N Scale to build complex or more visually expansive models. Also, N Scale allows you to run prototypical length trains of 100 cars or more. You can create layouts where the scenery dominates the railroad, just like in real life.
N Scale trains have a surprising level of detail. There is a wide variety of high-quality road names, locomotives, and accessories available for beginners and seasoned engineers alike. In the N Scale Model Train Collection on Tower Hobbies, you can recreate the era you wish to replicate and collect era-appropriate locomotives, freight cars, passenger cars, tracks, and accessories. Tower Hobbies can help you build your dream model railroad layout. No matter how big or small your design, if you are a beginner or professional modeler, you're in the right place.
With the continued popularity of model railroading in America, hundreds of large and small manufacturers have contributed thousands of different trains and accessories in various scales and price ranges. Tower Hobbies specializes in the most popular model railroad scales, including N Scale. Popular manufacturers of N Scale trains and accessories include Kato, Atlas, Bachmann, and Athearn, among others.
