RC racing is a fun and exciting hobby that involves racing radio-controlled cars or trucks on various tracks or surfaces. There are different classes and scales of RC racing, depending on the type and size of the vehicle you choose. Some popular classes in Off-road racing are mini's, 1/10 Two Wheel Drive (2WD) Buggy, and 1/8 Electric Buggy (E-Buggy). Some popular on-road classes include Mini-Z's, Drag Cars, and Euro Truck. Below is a selection of vehicles and accessories that will help you in your journey to your first race!
Ready-to-run (RTR) models come with everything you need to start driving, or you can buy kits that require assembly and additional parts. You will also need a battery pack and charger to power your vehicle. You will need at least two battery packs so you can swap them between races. Almost all 1/10 and 1/8 scale cars use LiPo Batteries. You will also need to select tires that match the surface you plan to race on. There are different types of tires for different terrains, such as asphalt, carpet, clay, etc, and the best way to know if to ask someone at your local track what tires they use.
Besides your vehicle, battery, charger, radio, you will want to invest in some good tools, a pit mat, extra tires for changing conditions, and a transponder.
RC racing can be a lot of fun and rewarding if you are willing to learn and improve your skills. You can meet new friends who share your passion and enjoy the thrill of competition.
A Mini-B RC buggy is a 1/16 scale version of the Losi 22 buggy that comes ready-to-run with a brushed motor, ESC, servo, receiver, transmitter, battery, and charger. It is a 2WD buggy that can run on various surfaces such as carpet, dirt, grass, or asphalt. Racing a Mini-B RC buggy can be a lot of fun and challenging. You can enjoy the thrill of competition and the camaraderie of other racers. You can also improve your skills and knowledge as you race more often.
The 22 5.0 Race Roller is a great way to get into the world of 1/10 off-road racing. This car comes pre-assembled, and then you add your ESC, Receiver, Servo, Battery, Pinion, Tires, and Paint the body to get on track! This is a championship winning platform, for a lower cost than most kits. It is also a great value because of the huge network of TLR drivers across the USA that will be able to provide you with assistance at the tracks!
1/8 outdoor off-road racing is incredible with big jumps, rough tracks, and tough competition. However, it can also be more forgiving to new drivers than on-road and other classes. E-Buggies are great becuase unlike nitro buggies, you do not have to tune engines, buy fuel, or need a ton of extra equipment to start the engine. This TLR Tuned TYPHON is the perfect vehicle to get anyone on the track for their first time.
Drag Racing is all about power and fast reaction times. It is another great place for a beginner to start, because the technical driving skill is not as important. Drag racing in the RC world is typically "No Prep" meaning there are no additives added to the racetrack. This means you can replicate the racetrack on your own driveway. This is also great if you are looking to start with a friend, as two racers are only needed to make the trash talk start.
Simply load 4 x AAA-size batteries to experience true radio control car performance with exquisitely designed models that can rest on the palm of your hand. The immaculate scale body design and high-performance chassis combination is the embodiment of Kyosho’s design expertise from 50 years of building world championship winning radio control machines. From its debut in 1999, the MINI-Z has continually evolved as the benchmark for small size radio control model cars. This RWD series represents the latest rear wheel drive MINI-Z chassis design. As the steering system and drive system are separate, the MINI-Z RWD is easy to steer and handles just like a real car.
Euro Truck is a pure box stock class open to any skill level hobbyist. This is a great class to get started in for a low-cost, and to test your skills on-road. These vehicles have to be kept completely stock during races, so no equipment advantage can be made by drivers with a larger budget. This is also a great secondary, fun class for the experienced on-road racer.
