AFX began as a brand of Aurora Plastics and after Jim Russell sold his company, Russkit, to Aurora Plastics and came on board to manage the hobby side of HO scale slot cars, AFX slot cars saw dramatic growth. In 1971, a team formed under another brand of Aurora Plastics to develop the original G+ chassis for slot cars while trying to break them away from model trains and make them more exciting. It was the first “ground effects” magnetic car and an important development for slot car racing. It was revealed in 1975 and AFX was off and running.
Racemasters was formed in 1998 while AFX was under new ownership with Tomy. Jim Russell was an ongoing consultant for AFX which eventually led to Tomy selling AFX to Jim Russell to keep the brand alive. Jim’s family came on board to help rebuild the AFX/Racemasters line and they still run it to this day. They believe in slot cars as fun, realistic, and high-performing model cars. Slot cars are what they are today because of the development of the AFX/Racemasters slot car line over the past several decades.
What makes AFX slot cars unique is the innovation behind them. The AFX G+ chassis was lighter and faster than any slot car ever before. Slot car racing continues to be a hobby loved by people round the world and it is only getting better.
