In the Harry Potter films, the Hogwarts Express is a fictional train made up of four, and later five, British Rail Mark 1 carriages. It was hauled on screen by No. 5972 Olton Hall, a Hall class 4-6-0 steam locomotive built in April 1937 at Swindon Works for the Great Western Railway and withdrawn in December 1963. Restored at Carnforth and steamed again in 1998, it kept its GWR number but carried Hogwarts Castle nameplates, a Hogwarts Express headboard and a crimson livery, a non-standard colour for a GWR engine. Scenes were filmed at King's Cross station, the Glenfinnan Viaduct and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.
