Bachmann Industries has a long history spanning back to 1833 in Philadelphia where they manufactured ornate hair accessories and umbrella handles. In 1912, the company began to use celluloid to manufacture eyeglass frames and moved to injection molding. Bachmann Industries manufactured products to support American efforts in World War II, including sunglasses. It wasn’t until after World War II that Bachman Industries began turning to hobby goods.
Bachmann trains began as easy-to-use, snap-together kits under the name Plasticville® U.S.A. As model trains became a more popular hobby, Bachmann trains expanded into model train accessories including scenery and buildings. The Spectrum® line of model trains was released in 1988 and in 2002 Bachmann trains became the distributor of Thomas & Friends™ from Thomas the Train in the United States. Currently, Bachmann is the only model train company to offer HO, N, On20, O, and G scale model train lines.
