My name is Tom Cogswell and I caught the RC bug early on in middle school when the original Losi Mini-T was released, racing it at our local indoor carpet track every weekend and putting a large amount of my part time job money into upgrades. But my passion for RC did not come to fruition until I joined Horizon Hobby back in 2010 as a Product Support Technician. I quickly became engrossed in all aspects of RC. From bashers to 3D acrobatic planes, I had experience with it all and quickly became the go to support rep for troubleshooting tips and setup advice. My experience and dedication to the RC community caught the attention of the Spektrum marketing team, and was brought on as Brand Manager for Spektrum. There I honed my marketing and customer experience skills into helping the team create meaningful and informative content to support existing and future product lines.
I was a huge part of Spektrum Smart Technology’s birth. From the first discovery sessions to the launch of Spektrum Smart, I had a hand in it all. And with experience working with the RC community, I was the perfect person to make sure we were creating something that would meet the goals of making RC more accessible and less intimidating to new and experience RC enthusiasts.
After 6 years working with Spektrum, I recently moved rolls to producing product launch videos and advertisements as a Videographer for Horizon Hobby. You can see my passion for RC and creativity in the latest Spektrum and E-Flite Product videos.
This is the most comfortable and capable transmitter I have ever owned or had the pleasure of using (and I have used A LOT of transmitters!) I love the android powered touch interface, the programming is familiar and easy to use, but best of all is the ergonomics. For a 3D and high-powered RC Helis, you need something that is comfortable but most importantly, you are able to reach all four corners of the gimbal and all switches without straining or stretching. The Spektrum iX14 has all this covered and with the ultra-smooth Hall Effect gimbals, your controls are very precise, giving me a more solid connection to my aircraft.
This is a pretty new model from E-Flite but I have been lucky enough to get a lot of stick time on it and I have to say I have been pleasantly surprised with how much fun it is to fly! It can fly slow or you can blast off with ballistic power. And with the differential thrust on the 2 motors, it performs some insane stunts that are easy to pull off and recover from. Making anyone flying it look like a pro! And another big positive is how easy it is to swap out the gear for floats and it is just as much fun on water (IF NOT MORE!) as it is on wheels.
