Holy dream-come-true!
It’s been four decades since Adam West’s Caped Crusader and Burt Ward’s Boy Wonder last roared out of the Batcave in the famous Batmobile — a machine that’s still the biggest star of the classic 1966-1968 "Batman"® ABC TV series.
How better to mark the show’s 40th anniversary than this: Warner Brothers, DC Comics, and Mattel Inc. recently announced the production of a stellar line of Hot Wheels die-cast cars that bring the Batmobile speeding back into the spotlight.
Topping every collector’s wish list.
"This is the car that every collector has been asking for," says Mattel vice-president Geoff Walker.
Considering its pedigree, that’s no surprise. Television’s Batmobile was designed by custom automotive legend George Barris, who based it on a never-produced 1955 Lincoln Futura concept car.
"We received thousands of letters asking when the TV Batmobile will be available," Barris says. "I know that the Hot Wheels team will do it justice."
State-of-the-art reproduction.
The best 21st century technology has been used to recreate this 1960s icon in absolutely perfect detail.
First, the Hot Wheels design team took precise measurements from the original Batmobile. They also scanned the vehicle (which involved coating it with white powder) in order to work on the design digitally.
Three-dimensional images of the TV Batmobile were then created and used to cut the die-cast models’ tooling — thus ensuring the highest accuracy.

Mattel’s first die-cast TV Batmobile is a 1:64 scale model belonging to the basic Hot Wheels car lineup.
Several more versions will be introduced throughout the year. These include a second 1:64 model; a 1:43 scale edition; and a 1:18 scale option with three choices of detail and finish.
